📋 Indications & Clinical Dosage
*Lower respiratory infection, Upper respiratory infection, Skin infection, Urinary tract infection:*
Adults: 200 mg, then 100 mg every 12 hr or 50 mg every 6 hr.
Children 8 yrs: 4 mg/kg, then 2 mg/kg every 12 hr.
⛔ Contraindications
Renal failure, children under 12 years (deposition in growing bone and teeth, by binding to calcium, causes staining and occasionally dental hypoplasia)
⚠️ Precautions & Warnings
Hepatic impairment. Monitor for hepatitis, SLE or unusual pigmentation regularly, myasthenia gravis (muscle weakness may be increased), systemic lupus erythematosus (may be exacerbated), avoid exposure to sunlight or UV light, risk of super-infection.
⚠️ Adverse Reactions / Side Effects
Dizziness, vertigo, GI disturbance, Anaphylaxis, angioedema, blood disorders, exfoliative dermatitis, hepatotoxicity, hypersensitivity reactions,
pancreatitis, pericarditis, photosensitivity, rash, Stevens-Johnson Syndrome, urticaria, colitis, benign intracranial hypertension, bulging fontanelles, diarrhoea, dysphagia, headache, nausea, oesophageal irritation, visual disturbances, vomiting, anorexia, anxiety, flushing, fungal super-infection (when used for periodontitis), tinnitus, oesophageal ulcers, photosensitivity, hepatic dysfunction. Rare: pericarditis, myocarditis vasculitis, renal failure, interstitial nephritis, pancreatitis
