📋 Indications & Clinical Dosage
*Anovulatory infertility, Super ovulation for IVF:*
BY IM OR SC INJ: Adult (female): 1 amp daily for 9-12 days followed by 10,000 units HCG one day after the last dose; repeated at least twice at same level before increasing dosage to 2 ampoules. See literature.
*Adjunct to HCG therapy to stimulate spermatogenesis in hypogonadotropic hypogonadism:*
BY IM OR SC INJ: Adult (male): Following pretreatment with HCG, 1 amp 3 times/week and HCG 2000 units
twice weekly until sperm is detected in the ejaculate (4-6 months) then may be increased to 2 amp 3 times/week. See literature.
Children: Not applicable.
💊 Mode of Administration
IM or SC (ONLY as per manufacturers instruction) administration. The lower abdomen (alternating sides) should be used for subcutaneous administration.
⛔ Contraindications
Ovarian cysts or ovarian enlargement (not caused by polycystic ovarian syndrome), tumours of breast, tumours of hypothalamus, tumours of ovaries, tumours of pituitary, tumours of prostate, tumours of testes, tumours of uterus, vaginal bleeding of unknown cause
⚠️ Precautions & Warnings
Acute porphyrias, history of tubal disease. Exclude anatomical abnormalities. Monitor ovarian size and oestrogen response to avoid hyperstimulation
🔄 Drug Interactions
Clomiphene, other drugs that stimulate ovulation.
⚠️ Adverse Reactions / Side Effects
Fever, GI disturbances, headache, hypersensitivity reactions, injection site reactions, joint pain, ovarian hyper-stimulation, varicocele, acne, gynaecomastia, increased risk of miscarriage, increased risk of multiple pregnancy, weight gain. Rare: Exacerbation or aggravation of asthma, thromboembolism
