📋 Indications & Clinical Dosage
*Prophylaxis of iron deficiency anaemia:*
Adults: 300 mg/day.
Children: 1-2 mg Fe/kg/day upto a max of 15 mg/day.
*Iron deficiency Anaemia:*
Adults: 300 mg twice daily up to 300 mg 4 limes/day or 250 mg (extended released) 1 to 2 times a day.
Children: 3 mg Fe/kg/day in 1 to 2 divided doses, in severe cases increase up to 4-6 mg Fe/kg/ day in 1 to 2 divided doses.
Doses expressed in terms of elemental iron.
⛔ Contraindications
Hemochromatosis, haemolytic anaemia, haemosiderosis, diverticular diseases, intestinal obstruction, red cell aplasia, repeated blood transfusion, symptoms of intolerance.
⚠️ Precautions & Warnings
GI disorder, inflammatory bowel disease, intestinal stricture.
🔄 Drug Interactions
Tetracycline, penicillamines, antacids.
⚠️ Adverse Reactions / Side Effects
Nausea, diarrhoea, constipation, GI upset, staining of teeth, dark stool, epigastric discomfort
