๐Ÿ“‹ Indications & Clinical Dosage

*Symptomatic treatment of nausea and vomiting associated with acute migraine, Delayed chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting, Radiotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting, Prevention of postoperative nausea and vomiting:* ORAL OR BY IM INJ, OR BY SLOWIV INJ: Adult (body-weight up to 60 kg): Up to500 mcg/kg daily in 3 divided doses, when administered by slow IV inj, to be given over at least 3 min. Adult (body-weight 60 kg and above): 10 mg up to 3 times a day, when administered by slow IV inj, to be given over at least 3 min. Children1-18 yr: 100-150 mcg/kg up to 3 times daily (for delayed chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting, radiotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting only) *Hiccup in palliative care:* ORAL OR BY IM INJ, OR BY SLOW IV INJ: Adult: 10 mg every 6-8 hours. *Nausea and vomiting in palliative care:* ORAL: Adult: 10 mg 3 times a day. BY SC INF: Adult: 30-100 mg/24 hours.

๐Ÿ’Š Mode of Administration

Injection solution may be given IM, direct IV push, short infusion (15-30 min), or continuous infusion. For 10 mg dose, dilute in 50 ml 0.9%NS, 0.45% NS, D5W, or lactated Ringers solution.

Metoclopramide should only be prescribed for short term use (up to 5 days) because of the risk of neurological effects (MHRA/CHM Advice).Porphyria, renal or hepatic impairment, asthma, atopic allergy, bradycardia, cardiac conduction disturbances, children, elderly, epilepsy.

๐Ÿ”„ Drug Interactions

Anticholinergics, tetrabenazine, levodopa, bromocriptine phenothiazines, butyrophenones, pergolide, narcotic analgesic, aspirin, paracetamol.

โš ๏ธ Adverse Reactions / Side Effects

Neurological effects such as extrapyramidal disorders and tardive dyskinesia, extrapyramidal reactions, raised serum prolactin leading to galactorrhoea, gynaecomastia, hyperprolactinaemia, menstrual changes, anxiety, confusion, diarrhoea, dizziness, drowsiness, dyspnea, hypotension, oedema, pruritus, rash, restlessness, tardive dyskinesia on prolonged administration, tremor, urticaria, visual disturbances. Rare: Depression, methaemoglobinaemia (more severe in G6PD deficiency), neuroleptic malignant syndrome.

๐Ÿงช Compatibility & Storage Stability

Compatibility: Stable in D5 1/2 NS, LR, NS, mannitol 20%. Stability: Store at 20C (68F-77F). Store vials in carton until use. Do not store open single-dose vials for later use, as they contain no preservative. This product is light sensitive. It should be inspected before use and discarded if either color or particulate is observed.
