📋 Indications & Clinical Dosage
*Schizophrenia, Psychotic or manic symptoms of schizoaffective disorder:*
Adult: Initially 1.5-3 mg once daily with breakfast or on an empty stomach, increased to 6 mg once daily, then increased in steps of 3 mg if required, dose to be adjusted over at least 5 days; usual dose 3-12 mg daily.
⚠️ Precautions & Warnings
Caution in severe hepatic impairment, cataract surgery; risk of intraoperative floppy iris syndrome, dementia with Lewy bodies, elderly, patients with risk factors for stroke, predisposition to GI obstruction, prolactin-dependent tumours, renal impairment; reduced dose
⚠️ Adverse Reactions / Side Effects
Arthralgia, anxiety, depression, hypertension, epistaxis, malaise, myalgia, oedema, respiratory disorders, sleep disorders, urinary disorders, elevated plasma-cholesterol concentrations, elevated plasma-triglyceride concentrations, hypoaesthesia, paraesthesia, tinnitus, visual disorders. Rare: Antidiuretic hormone secretion, intestinal obstruction, intra-operative floppy iris syndrome, pancreatitis, pulmonary embolism, rhabdomyolysis
