๐ Indications & Clinical Dosage
*Maintenance in schizophrenia and other psychoses:*
BY DEEP IM INJ: Adult: Test dose 12.5 mg, dose to be administered into the gluteal muscle, then 12.5-100 mg after 4-7 days, then 12.5-100 mg every 14-35 days, adjusted according to response.
Elderly: Test dose 6.25 mg, dose to be administered into the gluteal muscle, then 12.5-100 mg after4-7 days, then 12.5-100 mg every 14-35 days, adjusted according to response.
*Childhood onset pervasive development disorder:*
Children: 0.4 mg/kg/day. See literature.
๐ Mode of Administration
Administered by IM injection. For IM and SC injection, use at least a 21G needle.
โ Contraindications
Renal or hepatic failure, marked cerebral atherosclerosis, severe cardiac insufficiency, comatose states, CNS depression, blood dyscra-sias.
โ ๏ธ Precautions & Warnings
QT-interval prolongation, liver, respiratory or cardiac disease, cardiac arrhythmias, thyrotoxicosis, epilepsy, glaucoma, hypothyroidism, myasthenia gravis, prostatic hypertrophy, Parkinsons disease; reduce dose or use anti-Parkinsonian drugs in pa-tients showing extra-pyramidal reactions, elderly. Withdraw gradually, when transferring from oral to depot therapy, the dose by mouth should be reduced gradually
๐ Drug Interactions
Adrenaline, alcohol, barbiturates, CNS depressants, other antipsychotics, anticholinergics, antacids, do-paminergics, lithium, oral hypoglycaemics, antihypertensives, anticonvulsants, drugs that prolong the QT interval (e:g. anti-arrhythmics), sibutramine, metoclopramide.
โ ๏ธ Adverse Reactions / Side Effects
Erythema, inappropriate antidiuretic hormone secretion, nodules, oedema, pain at injection site, swelling, systemic lupus erythematosus, leucopenia, hyperprolactinaemia, acute dystonias and dyskinesias, akathisia, Parkinsonism, drowsiness, insomnia, agitation, tachycardia, arrhythmias, ECG changes, hypotension, anticholinergic effects (e.g. dry month, blurred vision), respiratory depression, nasal stuffiness, rash, photosensitivity, hyperglycaemia, impaired temperature regulation, male sexual dysfunction. Rarely, agranulocytosis, tardive dyskinesia, jaundice, neuroleptic malignant syndrome, pigmentary retinopathy

๐งช Compatibility & Storage Stability
Stability & Storage: Intact vials should be stored at controlled room temperature and protected from freezing and light. Solutions that are darker than light amber, are discolored in some other way, or contain a precipitate should not be used.
