📋 Indications & Clinical Dosage
*Local infiltration anaesthesia; AVS for nerve block:*
BY LOCAL INFILTRATION: Adults: Injection 2% with adrenaline: Dosage varies with the anaesthetic procedure, degree of anaesthesia needed, vascularity of tissue, duration of anaesthesia needed and physical condition of patient.
Children: Use lignocaine concentration of 0.5% to 1% (or even more diluted) to decrease possibility of toxicity. Lignocaine dose should not exceed 7 mg/kg/dose; do not repeat within 2 hr.
*Local anaesthesia for usein dental procedure, dental infiltration anaesthesia and dental nerve-block:*
Conduction anaesthesia, infiltration anaesthesia: 6 to 40 mg of lignocaineInj (Dental); Oral surgery anaesthesia: 60-100 mg of lignocaineInj (Dental).
⛔ Contraindications
Atrioventricular block, application to the middle ear (risk of ototoxicity), avoid injection into infected or inflamed tissues, preparationscontaining preservatives should not be used for caudal,epidural, or spinal block, or for intravenous regionalanaesthesia (Biers block),severe myocardial depression
⚠️ Precautions & Warnings
Congestive cardiac failure, debilitated patients, elderly,epilepsy, hypovolaemia,impaired cardiac conduction, impaired respiratory function,acute porphyria, myasthenia gravis, post cardiac surgery, shock, renal and hepatic impairment.To avoid excessive dosage inobese patientsdose should be calculated on the basis ofideal body-weight.
🔄 Drug Interactions
Propranolol, cimetidine, antiarrhythmics, diuretics.
⚠️ Adverse Reactions / Side Effects
Bradycardia and hypotension (may lead to cardiac arrest), confusion, convulsions, dizziness, drowsiness,paraesthesia, respiratory depression. Rare: Anaphylaxis
